Portland is a small city that mixes urban sophistication with home-town
friendliness. Portland's Old Port District has been restored to 19th century
splendor, with cobbled streets and beautiful Victorian brick buildings hosting
an eclectic mix of restaurants, microbreweries, art galleries, and specialty
shops. Here you can enjoy views of Casco Bay while dining, or browse through the
quaint shops selling crafts, antiques, and Maine-made products.
Most of Portland's best attractions are within a ten-minute walk. The
Portland Museum of Art, housing a permanent collection of paintings by Winslow
Homer, Renoir, Degas, Monet, Picasso, and other masters, is only five blocks
away from the marine terminal. Next door is the Children's Museum of Maine. The
State Theatre, The Merrill Auditorium and the Portland Performing Arts Center,
offering concerts and other events, are in the same neighborhood.
Freeport, home to the world famous L. L. Bean sporting goods store, is just
twenty minutes north of Portland. The Freeport Merchant's Association provides walking maps of the
shopping Mecca. Whatever it is you're looking for- you're sure to find it in
Freeport!
If rocky coastline and quaint village atmosphere is what you're looking for,
Kennebunk - Kennebunkport can't be beat. Get a glimpse of
President George Bush's summer home Walker's Point.
