City Council Inauguration on Monday, December 4 at Noon

On Monday, December 4, 2017 during a special noontime city council meeting, newly elected Councilor Kimberly Cook (District 5) and returning Councilors Jill Duson (At-Large) and Justin Costa (District 4) will be sworn-in during the inauguration ceremony. They will all serve a three-year term. The City will also honor outgoing Councilor David Brenerman for his service.


The Council will also vote on a new slate of Council Committees and Council Rules. If approved, this year’s Council Committees will consist of the following:

  • Economic Development
  • Finance
  • Health & Human Services and Public Safety
  • Housing
  • Legislative/Nominating
  • Rules and Reports
  • Sustainability and Transportation

Each Committee would consist of three Council members. Mayor Strimling will announce Committee assignments on Monday. Potential new rules to be considered by the full Council include:  Increasing the threshold for the Council to approve an out of budget item from $5,000 to $50,000; Require five votes to pass an amendment; Allow Mayor to extend time for a speaker without a vote of the Council; and Ask people to identify the organization they represent, if they do, when they speak.
