Lead Poisoning Prevention

Chronic Disease Prevention Program receives funding from the Maine Center for Disease Control to reduce childhood lead poisoning in the cities of Portland and Westbrook.

Objectives include:
- increase screening for blood lead levels in children ages 2 and under
- educate landlords and parents with young children about lead poisoning prevention
- form an active Lead Poisoning Prevention Committee

The Lead Poisoning Prevention Committee is looking at additional ways to leverage partner resources and connections to promote and move towards lead-safe communities.
