Description: Join Portland City Arborist Jeff Tarling, Park Ranger Jill Mulkern, and Parks, Rec and Facilities Deputy Director Ethan Hipple for a cross country ski through the Evergreen Cemetery Woods. The 300 acre Evergreen Cemetery property contains 100 acres of woods filled with miles of trails, rocky ledges and great xc skiing terrain. If snow is on the ground, we will travel by XC ski. Intermediate XC ski skills required--this is not a lesson. All skiers must be able to travel on backcountry trails and come to a stop on their own in steep terrain. If the ground is bare, we will do the route as a hike, but ice grippers may be necessary. Kids are welcome (and encouraged) with adult supervision. Bring water and a snack, and be prepared to be outside in the cold for several hours. Length: 3+ miles
