Boards and Committees
Boards, commissions, task forces, and committees are an important part of Portland’s government. Each board or commission works with internal departments and staff, City Councilors, and the public to serve the City.
Council Committees consist only of City Councilors. The other boards, commissions, task forces, and committees consist of appointed and/or elected members. Some may be appointed by the City Council after members of the public apply and are interviewed by the Nominating Committee, others may be appointed by the City Manager.
Vacancies on these boards, commissions, task forces, and committees come up several times throughout the year, depending on the rules and membership terms of each. We encourage members of the public to regularly view the list of vacancies and apply to serve, as it is one of the best ways Portlanders can become active in their community.
